My eldest son won his hockey grand final last Saturday morning. What was amazing about it was that it was:
played in torrential rain (it was a water-based astroturf field so it was meant to be a tiny bit wet anyway)
it was an 8am game (too early for my liking – especially in pouring rain)
it was [...]

Whilst in between my cricket induced sleeps on the couch, I heard a great quote on ABC radio. An ex-international Australian cricketer, now commentator asked his Indian counterpart Mr Gavaskar something you wouldn’t normally ask someone in everyday conversation….
“What’s it like to be an Indian?”
After a few ‘Please explains,’ Gavaskar says to his [...]

I’ve now doubled my trophy collection by receiving the ‘best and fairest’ for my hockey team for 2007. Apparently it was unanimous but I didn’t get a vote so I say it was unfair.
I don’t really know if I was the best. If it was up to me I would have called the award [...]

I had to laugh when I found out that Japan are versing Wales this week in the group games in the rugby world cup.
HEADLINE NEXT WEEK. Japan vs Wales (whales). I want to know whether harpoons are allowed this time and whether if Wales get slaughtered, it’s all for the sake of scientific research?
So [...]

Last Friday I took the kids to the football because my oldest son was given a free ticket at school and he really wanted to go. Seeing it’s nearing the end of the season, I thought I mite as well and I didn’t have any assignments or work to do. Plus the fact that Lesley [...]

I spent last Saturday watching current Australian Kookaburra players Brent Livermore and Jamie Dwyer play for GNS in a pretty one sided match against Sydney Uni. Watching Premier league club level hockey is pretty exciting but seeing a couple of the best players in the world play is something else.
To see Jamie Dwyers 4 or [...]

Today I played golf at a charity day down in the Southern outskirts of Sydney with a few mates from college. The first shot of the day (not by me) came off the tee and went 90 degrees into a small pond. Was this a sign of things to come for the day?
The best part [...]

I’m soooo glad that hockey isn’t played over a long weekend because Sydney had the biggest storm last Saturday nite and the problem with playing hockey is that its played on water based astro turf so it doesn’t matter whether it rains or not – except when the field has 2 inches of water covering [...]
